Nicole was drinking wine. She felt she deserved it. She had spent the afternoon with Erica Lavigne and Lt. Commander Ophelia Masters going over details of her probation. Going over everything that she had done since the biological weapons incident.
Both Erica and Ophelia were total bitches in their approach. They chastised her every move, her every behavior, calling her unreliable and incompetent. Erica was still embarrassed over their own trist and took out her frustrations with Ophelia there. Nicole just wanted to cry.
These women forget that she has overseen the largest colonial expansion in the quadrant ever!! She had processed more civil contracts and more refugee and citizenship applications than any other colony commanding officer in the Alpha Quadrant. She was very good at her civil service role. All they cared about was who she was f**king and when she was doing it.
The wine offered little solice. Her door bell rang, it was a crewman from the federation complex. He looked up, "Your intelligence reports, Admiral, as requested."
Nicole smiled and thanked him as she took the PADDs. She had commissioned some cadets to serve as spies to check up on Dr. Orchid Coren and Amy Turin, her two most recent girlfriends. This was an obvious misuse of resources but in light of what they were trying to get her for, it was nothing.
Nicole sat down as watched the PADD visual display as the monitors watched Orchid go to work and go home, still looking deeply hurt and saddened.
Nicole next played the video for Amy Turin. Amy went to the Academy, changed from Star Fleet Uniform to Omega Academy School Uniform and went to the evening Command Class. Nicole was shocked when Captain S'Nii showed up in the class. She never thought S'Nii would take her advice and get some more experience after her "Montgomery" promotion. Nicole was about to shut down the PADD when she saw Amy and S'Nii talking and laughing. Nicole was suddenly interested in the video.
Amy informed Captain S'Nii that she needed to go back to the gym to change back into her Star Fleet Uniform. S'Nii joked that she too had changed from her uniform into School garb there.
It was like a train wreck. In her heart, Nicole knew what was going to happen, and yet she could not look away.
Nicole watched for a bit, watching Amy and S'Nii kiss and then engage in other activities. Her heart sank into her toes. She and Orchid could have had an incredible experience on the conference room table; relationship altering even. Instead, Orchid is deeply sad and sitting alone. Nicole is deeply sad and sitting alone and Nicole's former coach and girlfriend is having the fun they should have.
There is not enough wine in the universe to mend a broken heart.
