Nicole was in her office. She was securing supplies. It is surprising but many local traders see the actions of President Johnson as too far reaching in the sanctions against Admiral Hunt. She has been able to make a fair number of deals.
Nicole was actually pleased with her efforts when Ophelia walked in. Nicole looked up and shocking blurted out, "What are you still doing here?"
Ophelia stood there for a moment, "I am who I say I am. I am a firm believer that the Federation and Star Fleet should operate at a very high morale standard. All things should be done in a professional, positive and standard manner. This is why I hold you, considering your rank to a very high standard. I expect you to behave in a certain manner. I would expect no less from President Johnson or Admiral Hunt. I believe this may very well be persecution and outside the realm of responsibility for the president. I believe President Johnson acted unprofessionally and without the authority of the Fleet when he sanctioned Admiral Hunt. I therefore cannot stand with him."
Her speech was excellent. Nicole looked dumbfounded.
"I would like to remain with the Colony staff. I would like to maintain my position as behavioral observer.", Lt. Commander Masters continued.
Nicole stood there for a long time. She finally looked up, "And what services would you offer?"
"The colony, the Phoenix Fleet and even Admiral Hunt must be seen as operating above reproach, as the real honorable ones in this issue. I can help in the capacity. I am well known, well respected and have ears within the admiralty. Should they see this as a persecution and see Admiral Hunt as the victim, perhaps the rift can be repaired.", Ophelia explained.
"Welcome aboard, Commander Masters, Dr. Leonard McCoy Teaching Hospital Morale Officer and Omega Academy Officer Edicate Instructor.", Nicole smiled.
"That would be Lt. Commander.", Ophelia corrected.
"Not if you are going to influence myself and Commodore Viceroy, Ophelia. Your rank should at least be a prudent threat.", Nicole laughed.
"Yes, Ma'am.", Ophelia snapped to attention.
Nicole took the purple wrapped bars out of her desk.
"These are not Federation bars, Vice Admiral.", Ophelia looked puzzled.
"No, Ophelia, these are Phoenix Fleet bars. This is who you are now. Phoenix Fleet.", Nicole explained.
"I can live with that.", Commander Ophelia Masters smiled.
