As time goes by, you come to realize that things rarely happen that are not interconnected and as one grows in interplanetary politics, it is easy to realize that things are often about trade off and compromise. The decision to evaluate what was known or directed by Admiral Monica Montgomery as it relates to the Wasp Class USS Rhythm Dennyson and espionage activities by the King's Fleet, this was not taken lightly and the opportunity was used to significantly undermine the Vulcan Purity Movement.
The selection of Professor T'tan of the Younger Academy and former Secretary of State of the colony of Camelot provides an essential and important position within Starfleet to a Vulcan and serves as a greater salvo than any actual torpedo launched by a Starfleet vessel towards the Vulcan uprising. Furthermore, because T'tan is the mother of the VPM movement political leader T'tanides, this serves an even greater purpose in undermining her position within the movement itself.
President Alexander Laree has played this political game many times in his career. The Laree family first became involved in interplanetary communications through Ambassador Hulanen Laree who has served as an advisor and a scientist. Hulanen is the universe's foremost expert on interspecies copulation. Her daughter Teena served as a counsellor on the USS / CGV Tanmesad and met Tanus of Gorn serving on this vessel. The Laree family became intertwined in the history of the important Cardassian vessel when Autumn Laree joined the ship as a tactical officer.
As the Tanmesad became involved with the King's Fleet some old relationships were also restored including old friendships with Admiral Vincent Viceroy. Vincent, his brother Gavin and Alexander Laree and Illyan Coren had formed the foundations of the first King's Fleet and jointly constructed the first Governor's Station. The three families became part of each others existence for many years. Alexander longed for that type of relationship to be restored.
T'tan's investigation soon revealed that she was being manipulated to help bring down Admiral Monica Montgomery and Admiral Harper Madison who were no longer supporting the presidency of Alexander Laree . This was as much a political activity as it was an espionage investigation. The Vulcan very quickly learned that she was being played.
T'tan also learned that despite the rhetoric about limiting the authority of the regional fleet system, Alexander truly wanted to be intertwined with the King's Fleet once more. She soon discovered that Hulanen had used her ability to manipulate others to get Harper Madison caught with Jaskalla Naar'Haaj in a very compromising position. Hulanen convinced Harper to try a Tellarite and carefully choreographed the pair meeting as part of this investigation. The move was designed to break up Nicole and Jaskalla.
Alexander wants to reestablish the influence of the Betazoid people with the influential and dangerously manipulating Nicole Branson. Alexander also wanted to reestablish a connection between the Larees, the Corens and the Viceroys. He had already done some work with Illyan to set up this whole event. What was old was new again...
Meadow Coren was the wild child niece of Illyan and Loiza Coren who became an integral part of history serving aboard the USS Wrath of Achilles in the Phoenix Fleet and became a hero of the Phoenix Liberation War bringing down the last significant Vulcan threat, the Empire of V'Ros. Meadow had a younger sister known as Monday Coren. The Coren family has had a fascination with these less tradition Federation Standard names. Like Meadow, Monday has had a reputation for being wild and had been kept out of the political eye but now there was an opportunity to use her wild ways to the advantage of both powerful Betazoid families.
Alexander knew that a heartbroken Nicole would be easy pray for a free spirit like Monday Coren. She would covet someone to comfort her broken spirit. Monday could fill that void and reconnect these powerful families.
The pieces on the chess board have begun to move as expected.
