Monica really believed that the temporal solution was the best one for Starfleet and the United Federation of Planets. The end of the regional fleet authorities and a return to a singular Starfleet. The return of a Vulcan, President T'tan to the seat of democratic authority would prevent the rise of the fascist Vulcan Empire under Emperor V'Ros. Stability would be restored. 2388 was clearly better than the alternate 2396 which included a powerful Klingon Empire complete with a near infinite supply of Dilithium with the assault on the buffer states. 2396 was going to be a continuous state of warfare.
Monica could not believe the boredom that comes with the restoration of a stable Federation. She almost begged Starfleet to threaten the Klingon Empire. The military intelligentsia was content to let each of the three superpowers coexist. Monica was bored. Her life had been filled with chaos in her association with the King's Fleet first as a rival and then as a member of the notorious colonists. She loved the chaos.
Monica held a secret meeting with Section 31 director Caitlin Wu. The beautiful Asian listened carefully to the words of Admiral Monica Montgomery. Caitlin agreed to broker a meeting between Admiral Montgomery and King's County Police Chief Antoinette Viceroy. Caitlin agreed to allow the ladies to swap roles if Admiral Toni Viceroy agreed to the move.
Monica came well armed with the offer to have Andorian Admiral Pasha Trmel assigned as the Senior Tactical Advisor allowing the girls to become a couple once again. Toni was definitely interested. She agreed to speak to Admiral Vincent Viceroy. Vincent would only agree to the transfer if Deveniss agreed.
Deveniss did not want Toni there against her will but informed Vincent that Monica would have to return to the King's Fleet or King's County Police Department as a Captain, a dramatic reduction in rank given her part in the temporal assignment. Deveniss believed that Monica would not return at that rank. He was very surprised to learn that Monica agreed to serve as the King's County Deputy Sheriff to Admiral Vincent Viceroy's Sheriff. She wanted to come back. She wanted to be a part of something special.
Monica was briefed on life in 2016. She then came to the station. Monica met with Vincent who informed the deputy sheriff that Admiral Deveniss was still in charge of all crew assignments even though he could not appear in the public eye. Monica agreed and began to review the case load. Monica wanted a greater interaction with the public so she asked that the Caitians Galileo Leo and Leta Felis return to 2388 and turned the cop bar, the Excursion over to Charlene Faulkner and Valerie Bell. The move was largely unpopular but it moved the bar from the basement to the neighbouring storefront.
Deveniss had gone down to the garden to sit by the pool. He had his feet in the water and was sipping a glass of nice white wine. He got a surprise guest.
Monica looked at the old Selayan, "Would you like some company?"
"I thought you hated us?", Deveniss asked.
"I hated what the universe had become operating from one state of chaos to the next. I thought that as Section 31 describes, 'the status quo is best'", Monica offered.
"And how was it?", the Selayan smiled.
"Like sex with a normal human, satisfying but uneventful.", Monica teased.
"Now sex with a Selayan... It is strange and exotic, like life in 2016.", Monica sat down and put her feet in the water.
Deveniss looked at Monica, "I am glad you are back."
"Me too.", Monica kissed him on the snout.
