The Betazoids have always been a benefactor to the King’s Fleet. When Admirals Vincent and Gavin Viceroy were set up as Pariahs after Captain John Warren took the USS Quasar Quest into the Mirror Universe, Admiral Illyan Coren gave them a role on the First Governor’s Station orbiting Betazed and helped them find a way to continue to serve.
When Nicole Branson reached out to Admiral Vincent Viceroy to help the Phoenix Federation to establish the Phoenix Colony, it was Admiral Illyan Coren who helped support the colony. The Coren family allowed its children to serve. Nicole Branson and Orchid, Magenta and even Lavender Coren found love working together on the colonies. The Coren Family was not thrilled with these relationships. The Coren Family tried to derail many of these relationships through the media and through political and military influence.
The Coren Family has no love for Nicole Branson. The so-called placater has an innate ability to cause persons to want to work together and to support her. It is this knack for diplomacy that took her all the way to the Presidency of the United Federation of Planets.
It is this diplomacy that made her the perfect choice to deal with the Multiverse Rift. Those in powerful and powerful families including the Corens also feared the power she wielded so assigning her to Badlands 827 kept her away from the power base so that President LaBarbara and Admiral Wilson could run Starfleet and the Federation without her influence.
It must be acknowledged that Admiral Illyan Coren was part of the War Council that decided to allow the Romulans to attack the King’s Fleet, it’s Colony and it’s vessel to eliminate any remnant of the Multiverse Rift or the aliens who passed through the Rift.
This background makes the events of Station Sisko even more bizarre. Vincent has taken the youthful Carnation Coren as a partner. She was a trusted advisor and she became a lover. Vincent will never change. He is consumed by the task. He is rebuilding the King’s Fleet, Station Sisko and the King’s Fleet vessels. He was abandoning her for the job.
Nicole Branson was on the Station often. She was trying to rebuild the relationships with the Cardassians and Bajorans. She has a skill for diplomacy. Dr. Carnation Coren would often serve as a Counsellor for the Ambassador. The ladies would often talk about the horrors of Cannibal Camelot and what was done to survive the Romulan attack and the Federation Abandonment.
One night in a moment a sheer terror in the description of eating the flesh of those who served with us. Carnation put her hand in Nicole’s. These ladies shared a moment bound by a memory that very few people can or should ever know.
Out of that moment, a romance blossomed and has taken hold. This romance now strains the King’s Fleet by hurting the relationship between Branson and her benefactor Admiral Vincent Viceroy. The relationship strains the King’s Fleet”s relationship with the Betazoid worlds.
Nicole, why do you always do this? Why must your romances be at the center of all this?
This is supposed to be about utopia, service, science and exploration. It is not supposed to be a soap opera.
