There had been 4 other bodies in the past week. Each marked with same Cardassian markings. Omega Prime definitely had a serial killer. Robert and Martin were also definitely feeling some heat to solve the case.
The heat became even more intense when a house in the Cardassian Community was burned to the ground by the United Federation of Purists in a sheer act of hatred. The city was now in the grips of fear. This is by far the worst time for the colony.
Worse yet, Christine T'Nley had taken to following around Martin shoving microphones in his face screaming for results. Christine too had taken to following Robert. They had the same motives but Christine was looking for the glory of solving the case, Robert was simply looking to solve the case.
It was a cool Monday morning, the wind off the River Covington was sometimes quite cold when Robert got the results from the last crime scene. He was shocked and dismayed by the results. He should have simply apprehended the killer. He however had other priorities as well.
He went to meet with Nicole and Vincent before going to the crime scene. Nicole had to be told.
The truth is Tiara Teero never actually left Omega Prime as she had told us and applied for a transfer. My research tells me that she never boarded the Confederacy and she went into hiding.
Nicole, Vincent, Martin and I burst into the apartment. There was no furniture; just tons of anti-Cardassian imagery and books, news clipping and others images on the floor. There was Bajoran religious music playing and horrid writings in blood on the wall, "Cardassians must pay."
Nicole was in tears when Robert confronted Tiara in the center of the apartment. She flat out confessed to the whole thing. She told a harrowing tale of her love for her grandfather and of how she set up the colony by killing humans and blaming the Cardassians. She told of how even if she is caught, few will believe the truth. The seeds of hatred have been planted. The colony will forever do her work. There will forever be a mistrust of the Cardassians now. 5 human females have been killed.
No citizens will believe that a Bajoran female committed these attrocities. They will see this as an attempt by Colony Command to restore order. She then shot herself with a phaser.
Nicole was devastated. This was not what she wanted out of command. Vincent tried to console the commander. Robert went about setting up a crime scene and about cleaning up the scene.
The case was closed. There would be no more killing. He was proud of the accomplishment but he knew that Tiara was right. There would be few who would believe the truth. The purists would now have a rallying cry.
The colony had grown into something special. The Academy never looked better. The colony had also begun to grow as a business center with Veltkamp Village becoming a hub in the Omega Protected Territory. The colony should never be painted with the brush of hatred.
Nicole and Vincent went to the burned out Cardassian home. Nicole laid a small rose at the edge of the property. She lived in the community. It was her community too.
There is no way for the colony to be charactorized; by the hell fire that consumed the house.
