"Why does it have to be you?", Paul looked at Tanus.
"I am the head of the special forces. Legate Phanell is a dangerous man. He has risen through the Cardassian ranks with a level of cunning that I would not put against anyone but myself.", Tanus responded.
"Why now?", Paul begged, "We just got back from Paris. I do not want to lose you again... Ever!"
"Legate Varno is our inside man. Admiral T'Zohl wants to continue the momentum that Teshra started by eliminating another key enemy of peace.", Tanus explained.
"Tanus, what about Phaser? She could warn her father. You could be killed.", Paul started to cry. He had been the President of the Federation for months. He was never allowed to cry. He had some tears to flow.
If anyone was in touch with his feminine side, it was Paul Warren. Tanus walked over and held his short dress wearing life partner, "I will be back."
Sera, Phaser Phanell sat on the edge of the bed. She had just returned from the briefing. She was living with a humanoid slug. She looked at Linus sleeping in the bed. His always moist face drooled onto the bed. She had to use a coated pillow to prevent getting drenched by his saliva. What kind of life was she leading? She could betray the mission. She would be seen as a hero in the Union. She would be welcomed back and she would be the catalyst that the Order needed to take Cardassia back from Minister Gowan. Sera rubbed her face.
She thought about her conversations with Dr. Hulanen Laree about her relationship. She thought about how it felt to have someone when no one else wanted her. Linus had been that person who held her broken heart together. She was broken. He held her together.
Phaser walked down in the cold to the Casino. She walked into Ishka's and ordered a drink. She sat at the bar. Paul came in and sat next to the Cardassian hybrid. Paul looked at Phaser, "They left about twenty hours ago."
"I know.", Sera looked at Paul.
Paul looked at Sera and started to sob, "When it all fades away, love is all we have."
Sera rubbed her back, "I know."
The Cardassian hybrid left for the station.
