William felt that he too had let the colony down by not foreseeing the next step in the Retarnee attack. He quickly realized that serving as Star Fleet Commander in Chief and President of the Phoenix Federation was beyond even him. This was really two roles. He needed to administer the civilian government of the Phoenix Federation including its valuable assets including its defence force, the Phoenix Fleet and its task group, the Black Dragons as well as the homeworld of New Terra and the Phoenix Colony.
Admiral Hunt simply could not divert enough attention to this Phoenix Federation now that Star Fleet Command was headquartered on the Phoenix Colony. There was simply too much to do. There are over 80,000 active vessels in Star Fleet. This is significantly more than the 8 in the Phoenix Fleet.
Hunt shocked the region when he announced that his wife, Erica Lavigne-Hunt would become President of the Phoenix Federation. Lavigne definitely has the qualifications as a former Star Fleet Prosecuting Attorney and representative of the office of the Judge Advocate General. Erica will oversee the day to day operations of the Phoenix Federation and its member worlds including New Terra and the Phoenix Colony.
Admiral William Hunt will continue to administer the Phoenix Fleet. The fleet will be used to protect New Terra and Beta Quadrant Deep Space Station, Station Destiny. The USS Wrath of Prometheus has been moved from the Phoenix Colony to help assist in the protection of these valuable assets.
President Lavigne-Hunt than did the unbelievable. The region is simply too volatile to rely on Star Fleet for protection. Lavigne-Hunt met with the Vulcan High Command and was informed that Star Fleet assets will continue to be used to protect the Alpha Quadrant. Lavigne-Hunt needed to insure that other Phoenix Federation assets were protected.
In a shocking move, President Erica Lavigne-Hunt has promoted the King's Battlegroup to full Fleet status returning the King's Fleet into existence and promoting Commodore Vincent Viceroy to Admiral. Admiral Vincent Viceroy and his King's Fleet will be responsible for the protection of the Phoenix Colony and its orbiting assets as well as the Betazoid Wormhole.
William was not overly thrilled with Fleet status being granted to the Omega Fleet under Admiral Tim Veltkamp, trusted with protecting United Federation of Planets assets in the Beta Quadrant and now with the Admiral Vincent Viceroy being given Fleet command over the King's Fleet. He however is a very good leader and understands the limitations being placed on his extended reach. These are good men and will be able to help him maintain peace in the region.
William stood in Star Fleet Command headquarters in Omega Prime with the two other senior commanders. He thought about his long history in and out of Star Fleet and looked at the men, "Don't let me down!"
Vincent looked at Tim and then at Admiral Hunt and President Erica Lavigne-Hunt, "Not a chance!"
Viceroy saluted. Veltkamp saluted. Hunt paused until Governor Branson entered the room and then snapped to attention and saluted.
The colony was once again in good hands.
