As unverified Chancellor Vowelok of House Maug is named Vice President of the United Federation of Planets to help solidify the alliance between the Klingon Empire and the Federation, life in the zone between these powers continues to be very chaotic.
The colonists of Reykja Penthe remain in a constant state of upheaval fighting forces loyal to Klingon Empire holdouts under General Batok. The inhabitants of Omega and Bonn are used to Klingon strafing runs. It is not exactly helped with recruitment.
President Moyer showed up with Chancellor Vowelok. Vowelok was an ambassador in the Starbase loop years earlier. Governor Bernice Branson came walking out to meet the political guests.
Vowelok looked at Bernice and without her even speaking, the Klingon smiled, “Bunny.”
Bernice looked at the Klingon, ‘How would you know that?”
“You were a cute kid.”, Vowelok grinned.
Bunny did not remember much of her childhood. Her mother Nancy Branson moved often and did not speak of her father. Bunny did not remember the Klingon.
Vowelok looked at her, “Do you know why they called you Bunny?”
“Because I am cute.”, Bernice giggled as only her hippy way could.
“You wish.”, the Klingon mocked.
Bernice looked puzzled.
“Orycolagus Cuniculus Cait.”, Chancellor Vowelok winked at Governor Branson.
“An outcast.”, Guru Medici looked at the Klingon.
“Huh?”, Bernice looked at the Caitian Minister.
“The Caitians have a cousin species that like their own species share a resemblance to rabbits. Aboard Starbase 883, one of these outcasts was working as a janitor. A fine fellow whom your mother took a shine to.”, Vowelok poured a drink.
“I am a hybrid?”, Bernice looked stunned.
“The Raitians as they became known were hated by the Caitians. They breed quickly and often and were often seen in shanty’s on the home world.”, Vowelok offered.
“When your mother became pregnant, your father was taken below and killed.”, Vowelok offered.
Bunny stood there and started to sob. She never knew her father. She however knew pain.
Vowelok walked away having made his presence felt.
